1st Day of Class

We met our professor today. However, I feel really weird calling him “professor” since he’s so chill. His name is Gareth Harding and he’s a young Welsh man with a great accent =). He is so down-to-earth and awesome! We had our first class in the district where he works (left) and afterwards he treated us to a typical, healthy, Belgian lunch: Frites and BEER!

According to Gareth we had the best frites in Belgium! He bought us each a generous order of frites (Belgian fries) from this window at a hut… the place was clearly nothing fancy but it was hopping with people. Apparently the process in which they’re cooked is what makes them so uniquely delicious. The sauce list was endless and consisted of various flavors of mayonnaise and ketchup. As far as I was concerned mayo was mayo and ketchup, ketchup… but not here. Being the adventurous eater that I am, I chose plain ol’ ketchup :P

We took our snack to an outside café with a sign that read “Frites Welcome.” The area we had lunch reminded me of Pearl Street in Boulder…I loved it. We sat, ate, conversed and drank Stella Artois beer (typical). I never thought fries could be so amazingly delicious… ahh can’t wait to go back.

After lunch we left downtown and went to Carrefour, which is basically Walmart… I was in heaven! I was in desperate need of nail polish remover, hangers (brought way too much clothes per usual), and dish soap. After, we went to the awesome grocery market near our flat called Delhaize. To get in you must go through the coolest, futuristic, revolving, glass door. I got the mad giggles several times at the store it was really funny.

When I got home I was so excited to have a bowl of cereal, but I forgot to buy milk. wtf. But ya know what I didn't forget to buy? Chocolate. Belgian Chocolate. And OMG... I’m eating it right now and it’s DELECTABLE! Definitely bringing some home ☺
