Who Says American Women Can’t Dress?!

I landed in Washington Dulles airport around 7am. I got zero amount of sleep on the all-nighter flight due to the combination of the dreadful middle seat and my mind racing about certain thoughts.

The Brussels flight wasn’t until 6 pm. That meant I was doomed to airport boredom for 11 hours, with no free wifi. Awesome. Luckily, the seats in Dulles have no armrests -- a napper's paradise! By now, it had been more that 24 hours since I woke up in my bed back home in Broomfield. It. was. naptime!

I changed into a Mizzou t-shirt and my HFHS sweatpants. I second-guessed changing into my pjs cause I didn’t want to seem like a slob in public…plus, my mother would NEVER approve. But I thought, “Hell, I’m exhausted and I don’t know anyone here.” As I got cozy, I purposefully placed my heels in a clear view in front of my suitcase as a symbol for “I’m f-ing tired. Had to get comfortable." You know, a 'be back in an hour' sign, if you will. Well, I guess some people did not get the "obvious" memo.

As I was falling asleep, a lady walking by said in SPANISH: “Ay, es que estas Americanas no se saben como vestir!” Which translates to: “Ugh, these American women don’t know how to dress.” I was pissed! Anyone that knows me or simply has seen me out-n-about can attest that I, of all people, KNOW how to dress! I felt wrongfully judged and defeated at the same time! So, to be more discrete about my attire, I relocated to a distant row of seats that were literally facing a corner. I felt like that lady put me in time out ☹ (I think my mom would have too). But I slept like a baby for six hours! ☺

Six o’clock in the evening came sooner than I thought. I called a few of my loved ones and sent mass texts before jetting off across the pond.

So here I am, reclined in my Business Class seat with my glass of white wine off to Europe. What a luxury flight! My two long days of airport travel were all worthwhile in the end! I'm on my way to Brussels and I can’t believe the time for my semester abroad has finally come!!

PS: Mom, in case you’re reading… NO, I did not stay in my sweatpants! I changed the second I woke up. ;)
