Vegas, Baby. VEGAS!!

To my greatest surprise, my voyage to Brussels kicked off with a little pit stop to Vegas… I. Know!

DIA was infested with Dems trying to leave early from the silly democratic national convention today. They all screwed me over from trying to get to DC; I missed a total of five flights (I fly stand-because my father is a United captain). Forget about trying to make my connection to Brussels tomorrow, things were only bound to get worse with the convention ending in 24 hours. I had to GET OUT OF DENVER, TODAY! So I put my Dad and Katrina to work. They looked up flights connecting through STL, KC, Chicago, Oklahoma City, Orlando, LA, Portland ---but EVERY flight from those cities to DC was booked!

A half hour goes by and I get a call from my Dad: “Erika, you’re going to Las Vegas…it’s the only way out.” I hadn't even thought of Vegas as an option. I was thrilled! All I could think of was the famous line from Entourage: “We’re going to Vegas, baby. Vegas!” I've never been.

I landed in Las Vegas, and my girlfriend, Leslie Lillo, picked me up for the eight-hour layover. We drove around the strip, went to the Rio Hotel, and caught up with each other’s lives over glasses of wine at her new house; it had been over a year since I’d last seen her. We then went to this gorgeous outdoor mall and window-shopped at Juicy, Mac, Armani, etc. Her roommate, Molly, and Molly’s bf met up with us for dinner. The food, the place, the drinks and, most of all, the company were just perfect!

You know... when I woke up this morning I had no IDEA I’d be gambling in Vegas and chitchatting with Lillo. It’s this sort of spontaneity in my life that I live for! It was the best layover I could have ever asked for! Que viva Las Vegas!

My flight to DC was at 11:30pm and I made it on just fine. Pheww!! DC here I come…FINALLY!
