I forgot to mention...
As we strolled around town in Mechelen, Paola and I started talking about Music. (PS: she's great! Really chill girl who moved to Belgium a few years ago from southern Spain. Her English is perfect).
So, I asked her about Belgian music and she basically said it was not good and unpopular… I figured, since I’ve heard American songs all over the place :). Specifically Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” about five hundred times and at nice restaurants. I told her about it and she replied, “Yea, we like the classics.” But there's like more than one and MJ doesn't exactly yell candlelight dining (?). ANYway...

She was really curious about what Americans are listening to in the states. I asked her what sort of music she was into and she mentioned guitar. My eyes lit up with glee! So I, naturally, brought up JOHN MAYER. She'd never heard of him... (clearly living under a rock!) So I told her ALLL about Johnny boy! And while I was at it, I thought I’d go ahead and PR for my fave Michael Buble too. I mean, leave it up to me to spread the Mayer/Buble love, right? :P
Then, we somehow got on the “emo” subject. I explained what it was and said, “It’s when an artist whines and moans about a girl leaving him” (and I made the noise too). She happily responded with, “Oh so like Kelly Clarkson?” HAHA! “Not quite,” I said. Too broad of an explanation on my part so I proceeded to clarify and generalize further.
But yea I’m currently making her a CD with Mayer and Buble tunes! Hey, maybe I'll make copies and relay it to the next curious Euro that comes my way ;)
